| Sask First the Experience - A Parent's Perspective |
|
My son was one of the participants of the Bantam Zone Camp held this past weekend in Langenburg. I had read the literature that we had received prior to the event and the other info. once we had registered. First of all reading that information and understanding (getting it) was huge for me and our son. He went to camp with an open mind, nothing to lose BUT everything to gain. He gained experience, confidence, knowledge and most importantly friends. On the first afternoon I had to go out for a run and when I came back I was looking for my son, and never found him, when I asked his team mates where he was, they weren't sure...........well he was in the dressing room, with new team mates, getting to know his new line mates, laughing and joking around with them. Some of these boys he once played against and will likely again, but that was so good to see, new ground, new friends, and somebody behind the helmet you usually play against on the ice. So by the time the weekend wound down, the kids were tired worked very hard (harder than I have seen in a long time) and they were a brand new team, and new and new friends bonding together. One point that stuck in my mind when I read the info. leading into the weekend was "don't go into the camp only expecting to make the team" go to learn, have fun and gain experience, and that is what he did. When the kids do just that they come out being better players. That is exactly what has happened confidence, experience, skill and knowledge, also knowing he has the ability to compete against others. Now I know this sounding long and somewhat lengthly, but sometimes the complaints are expressed and the positive never is, however our son has never been to anything like this before and it was really a very positive experience. So Thank you for to the co-ordinators and all the people invoved. |
